This is especially true for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">renewable energy service providers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">solar contractors in Texas<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Like many states, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is investing in the growth and development of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wind, solar,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">renewable energy projects<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through various incentive programs intended to offset project cost and generate outside investment capital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To participate in these programs <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">renewable energy contractors<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">energy efficiency service providers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> must meet certain eligibility requirements which can vary from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.texasefficiency.com\/index.php\/utility-programs\/eligibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">region to region<\/a>. A common requirement however, is that the energy contractor must demonstrate a commitment to minimizing their exposures to risk with appropriate levels of insurance coverage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">solar installer <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">energy<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">efficiency<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contractor<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> applying for incentive programs within the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncoreepm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oncor<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> service area must \u00a0maintain at least the following minimum insurance coverages:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Commercial General Liability<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; including bodily injury and property damage; personal and advertising injury; contractual liability; products and completed operations; explosion, collapse and underground damage and premise operations written on an occurrence form.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Automobile Liability<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; with a combined single limit per accident for bodily injury, including death and property damage (applicable to all owned, non-owned and hired autos, trailers and semi-trailers).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Workers\u2019 Compensation and Employers Liability<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; providing statutory benefits in accordance with the laws and regulations of the State of Texas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Special care must be taken when evaluating and selecting your business insurance coverages as no two policies are the same. Each coverage must be tailored to reflect the risks associated with your specific business and operations. A standard general liability policy and a workers comp policy might fulfill the minimum insurance requirements for program eligibility but do not make the mistake of assuming that your business assets are automatically covered in the event of a loss. The reality is that minimum insurance requirements like those listed above (excluding workers comp) are generally intended to restore other parties after a covered loss occurs as a result of your business operations or rendered services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let&#8217;s say that a rooftop solar array that you completed 4 months ago fell from its originally installed position onto a lower portion of the roof, causing extensive roof damage before finally crashing to the ground. A general liability policy might cover the costs to repair the resulting roof damage but probably not the cost to repair or replace the solar array. Coverage for \u201cDamage\u201d <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cyour work\u201d is generally excluded from coverage but not \u201cDamage\u201d resulting <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cyour work\u201c.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s important to discuss coverage limitations with your insurance agent throughout the lifecycle of your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">renewable energy project<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
